Schilthorn, perched at 2,970 meters above sea level, is known for its spectacular panoramic views and its starring role in the James Bond film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

Reaching Schilthorn is an experience in itself. The journey begins in Stechelberg or Lauterbrunnen, where a series of cable cars take you up through picturesque alpine villages like Gimmelwald and Mürren. The final stretch to the summit offers breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks, including the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau.

At the summit, the Piz Gloria revolving restaurant offers 360-degree views. The restaurant’s name and theme pay homage to the 007 film, and the James Bond thrill continues with the Bond World exhibition, showcasing film memorabilia and interactive exhibits.

The Schilthorn summit also features a panoramic terrace, where you can take in stunning vistas of over 200 peaks. For a more adventurous experience, visit the Skyline Walk, a glass-bottomed platform that extends over the cliff edge, or the Thrill Walk at Birg station, where you can walk on transparent walkways and steel netting high above the valley floor.

In winter, Schilthorn becomes a paradise for skiers and snowboarders, with its long, challenging runs and stunning mountain backdrop. In summer, the area offers incredible hiking opportunities, including trails to Mürren or Gimmelwald that wind through alpine meadows and past spectacular viewpoints.

Seraina’s Tip: My favourite part of visiting Schlthorn is the Thrill Walk at Birg station. This exciting glass-bottomed walkway and steel netting path let you experience the sheer drop of the cliffs in a safe but thrilling way.
