bericht van Ryan & Katy Smilko

In Sequoia National Park, there's a fallen giant sequoia known as Tunnel Log that visitors can drive through. It fell across Crescent Meadow Road in 1937 due to natural causes, and a tunnel was later cut through it for visitors to enjoy. The tree was massive, standing at 275 feet tall and 21 feet in diameter at the base. The tunnel is still in use today, measuring 17 feet wide and 8 feet high, with a bypass for taller vehicles. While the famous Wawona Tree in Yosemite may have fallen, Tunnel Log remains a unique and popular attraction in Sequoia National Park.

Pet-friendly: Yes, pets are welcome on the road here, but we would strongly recommend keeping them in the vehicle as bears are frequently spotted around this area.

Soft adventure: Yes, definitely!

Seasonality: Technically all seasons, but the main road often closes during the winter.

Park entry fee: $35 per vehicle
