Scrabo Tower is a landmark located near Newtownards, in County Down, Northern Ireland. It is an iconic structure that stands atop Scrabo Hill, providing panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

The tower was built in 1857 as a memorial to Charles William Stewart. The architect was Charles Lanyon, who designed the tower in a Scottish baronial style. The tower is constructed of Scottish sandstone and has a distinctive pink hue.

Scrabo Tower was initially conceived as a monument and a viewing platform to appreciate the surrounding countryside. It was also intended to serve as a lookout tower during times of potential unrest.

The tower stands at a height of 125 ft. It is a prominent landmark in the area, visible from a considerable distance. Visitors who climb to the top of Scrabo Tower are rewarded with stunning panoramic views of the Ards Peninsula, Strangford Lough, the Mourne Mountains, and even as far as the Isle of Man on clear days.

Scrabo Tower is open to the public, allowing you to climb the internal staircase to reach the top and enjoy the views.

The tower is surrounded by Scrabo Country Park, which offers walking trails and green spaces for you to explore.

🧺This is one of my favourite picnic spots!
