Medieval Scottish castle on Loch

bericht van Tartan Viking

Kilchurn Castle, located on a rocky peninsula at the northeastern end of Loch Awe in Scotland, was originally built in the mid-15th century by the Campbells of Glenorchy. Over the years, it served as a stronghold for the powerful Campbell clan until it fell into ruins by 1770. The castle, now cared for by Historic Environment Scotland, is open to the public during the summer months. Visitors can access it by boat or on foot, but watch out for high water levels that might turn the site into a temporary island!
