The Coptic Museum, located in Coptic Cairo, Egypt, is the world's largest museum devoted to Coptic art and culture. Founded in 1908 by Marcus Simaika, it was created to house an extensive collection of artifacts and artwork from the Coptic era, which connected ancient Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Axumite, and Ottoman influences. The museum totals around 15,000 objects on display, arranged within twelve sections according to a chronological order. Among its most impressive articles are frescoes, icons, vestments, metalwork, stonework, woodwork, manuscripts, and textiles. There is also a library that holds 1,200 Nag Hammadi Manuscripts, accessible exclusively to specialist researchers. Within the museum grounds, six old churches provide some extra insight into the history of Coptic Christianity, boasting beginnings as early as the 5th century AD. The Coptic Museum takes visitors through Egypt’s fascinating past from its beginnings to the present day.
