The Jewish Ghetto (Ghetto Ebraico di Venezia) is a unique and historical neighborhood in Venice, Italy. Located in the northwestern portion of the island of Venice, this area was originally established as the first ever "ghetto" in 1516, when Jews were forced to live there by the Venetian government. Today, the area has transformed into a vibrant cultural hub, offering visitors an array of eateries, shops (some serving kosher products), and synagogues. The synagogue tours offer a great opportunity to learn more about the history of the area, while wondering through the tight alleys and canals of the district provides an interesting glance into the unique culture of Venice. With stunning architecture and plenty of places to explore, the Jewish Ghetto of Venice is a must-see for anyone looking to explore one of Europe's most beautiful cities.
