Located in the quaint village of Fossbergom, Norway, Lom Stave Church is a fascinating structure with an expansive history. This incredible church was designed in the traditional stave church style by an unknown architect and dates back to around 1170, making it 853 years old. It is still in active use today, and is beloved for its unique design – two dragon heads complete with open mouths decorate the roof, and the building itself is cross-shaped in plan. Inside, the nave has a flat ceiling, but houses a number of original features from when it was built, including large windows. A complete restoration was done in 1933 while more renovations were conducted in 1973, uncovering artifacts and coins along with evidence of previous structures on the site dating back to the 11th century!
