Sverd i fjell is a remarkable monument located in the Hafrsfjord area of Madla, Norway. A sculpture created by Fritz Røed from Bryne, the monument consists of three 10-metre tall bronze swords that have been planted into the stone beside the fjord. It commemorates the once historic Battle of Hafrsfjord which took place in 872 and fetes King Harald Fairhair as the victor uniting Norway under one crown. Symbolizing peace, the swords symbolize how none can be removed having been planted in solid rock and serve as a reminder of the unification. Be sure to take some time to visit this wonderful site and celebrate the age old battle of courage that Harald Fairhair experienced!
