We’ve put together all your best transport options and top locations
If you’re heading to Japan, chances are Mt Fuji is on your list!
Let me guess, you’re either jamming everything into a day trip or you’re planning an overnight stay.
Either way, with dozens of amazing spots to visit, it’s easy to tackle this spot THE WRONG way and waste loads of time.
I agonised over this for way too long. Allow me to streamline the process for you!
From Kawaguchiko Station, getting to all the iconic spots around Mount Fuji is easy with the colored buses.
The red "Fujisan" buses take you to the Fifth Station and Chureito Pagoda, while the green buses head to Lake Saiko and the Fuji Visitor Center.
You can buy tickets right at the station or on the bus, with prices ranging from ¥300 to ¥1,500 depending on your destination.
It’s a straightforward and affordable way to explore the area!
Now, let's get stuck into your game plan!
🚶♂️Chureito Pagoda – Start your journey at Chureito Pagoda, just a short 5 min walk from the Arakura Sengen Shrine bus stop (Red Line). This view of Mount Fuji is my absolutel favorite! You can actually cover off Honcho Street during this stop too. It's a 25 min walk from the Pagoda. BUT if you're hopping on public transport, then you might like to wrap up your trip at Honcho Street instead.
🚶♂️Arakura Shrine – On the way to and from the pagoda, it’s 5 mins by foot. The best views are on the way back down
🚌 Lake Yamanaka - From Arakura Shrine, take the Red Line bus here (around 25 minutes) The views are like nothing else. Pray for clear skies!
🚌 Oishi Park – Next, take the Blue Line (about 25 minutes) directly to Oishi Park, famous for its flower garden
🚌 Fuji-Q Highland – For views of Mt Fuji from a roller coaster, hop back on the blue line then stop here on your way back to Kawaguchiko Station. It’s 5 mins from the station by bus (Blue Line)
🚌 Kawaguchiko Station – Head to Kawaguchiko Station where you can catch a bus to the next spot. Stunning views here too
🚌 Oshino Hakkai Village – Take the Blue Line bus for 25 mins to get here. The cutest little village with natural springs and epic views
🚌 Honcho Street, Fujiyoshida – Next, take the Green Line for 25 mins to arrive here. Traffic controllers will be out in full force. DO NOT try to take a pic in the middle of the street
✨ This route takes 4 to 5 hours
✨ Travel Hack: If you want to take your time at each stop, hop on the Fujikyu Sightseeing Bus at the start of the day. It runs regularly, so you can hop on and off as often as you like
1. JR Pass
2. Fujisan View Express
3. Hakone Free Pass
4. Fuji Excursion Train
And there you go! Now you're equipped with everything you need to make the most of your Mount Fuji trip!
