Gullfoss, located in Southwest Iceland, is one of the country’s most popular attractions. From afar, it looks like a two-tier cascade of golden water descending between rocky walls, but up close, visitors can marvel at the enormity of what is actually one 32m deep crevice! The Hvítá river runs into this crevice and suddenly drops over 11 and 21m in two-steps to form a spectacular scene. The flow rate of this powerful waterfall ranges from 140m3/sec high season to 80m3/sec in winter. Tourists flock to Gullfoss as part of the Golden Circle, and with good reason - the majestic view is unmatched in its beauty and vigour.
