The Chiesa di Panagia Akathistos Hymn is a beautiful church located in the picturesque village of Oia, in Santorini. According to legend, the icon of the Virgin Mary found there was discovered while out fishing by a local fisherman. The divinely bright light radiating from the icon caused it to be brought ashore and placed into the church where it could bless all who enter it. Built on a square plan with five domes, arched windows, and a pyramid-shaped bell tower, the Chiesa is known for its ornate decorations including gilded mosaics, frescoes, and a richly carved wooden iconostasis.
