Bosnian cuisine (+ my favourite Sarajevo restaurants)

🇬🇧 PITA

Every country has its pie, and in Bosnia and Herzegovina, that’s Pita. Pita is made from yufka-like dough and different fillings. The most common types are Sirnica (filled with cheese), Burek (filled with meat), Krompiruša (filled with potatoes), and Zeljanica (filled with spinach).

ĆEVAPČIĆI

Ćevapčići, the national dish of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is prepared differently in every part of the country. In Sarajevo, these sausages are traditionally prepared from veal and served in flatbread called somun and with kajmak, a kind of sour cream. The best place to try them isĆevabdžinica Željo.

AŠČINICE

Aščinice are traditional Bosnian restaurants that serve stews, soups, and stuffed vegetables. Whatever has been prepared for the day will only be available at the Aščinica until it’s sold out. Bosnians mostly come here for a quick lunch. You can try nice Bosnian stews, spoups and stuffed vegetables at Barhana.

SWEETS

Bosnian cuisine has a strong Turkish influence, so you‘ll find the baklava here as well. Another very typical Bosnian dessert is Tufahija— an apple boiled in sugar syrup that is fillled with walnuts and topped with cream. You find the best Tufahija andBosnian coffee in Sevdah Art House!
