Krafla Víti in North Iceland is a volcanic explosion crater of stunning blue water that has been proven to be an incredible place to explore. This impressive phenomenon was formed by the Mývatn Fires eruption of 1724 and sits in the 10 kilometer wide, 90 kilometer long Krafla volcanic area. On tours from Akureyri and Mývatn, visitors can admire the 300-meter wide Víti crater, which was once said to be visible from the South Coast of Iceland. Icelandic poetry was inspired by this phenomenal site - even a composition from local composer, Jon Leifs, was performed by the Icelandic University Choir! Visitors looking for an unforgettable experience shouldn’t miss out on visiting Krafla Víti and surrounding attractions like Hverfel, Namaskarð, Reykjahlíð and more.

How to get there: From Route 1, take Route 863 north.
