bericht van Francesco Meola

As a huge fan of history and ancient art, Palazzo Altemps in Rome is one of my favourite museums in the city. Located in Campo Marzio, a few steps away from Piazza Navona, the palace was original built in the 15th century, but it was later purchased and improved upon by Cardinal Marco Sittico Altemps. Nowadays, it's home to one of the sites of the National Roman Museum and is filled with absolute masterpieces of ancient sculpture from many collections.

You can explore the two levels of the museum, which contains marble sculptures, paintings, frescoes, and antiques from all over the world.

One of my favourite features of the museum is the terrace on the first floor, which is beautifully decorated.

The museums is opened from Tuesday to Sunday from 9:30 am to 7 pm. If you visit Rome the first Sunday of the month, most museums are free of charge, including the Museo Nazionale Romano.

The regular tickets costs €8 (€2 reduced), but you can also purchase the ticket combined ticket for "Baths of Diocletian, Palazzo Massimo and Palazzo Altemps" which costs €12 (€8 reduced), if you want to visit all these 3 places (it's valid for 1 week since purchasing).

You can buy the ticket on location, it shouldn't be necessary to buy the tickets in advance online. When I visited it was one of the busiest periods in Rome, but the museum wasn't really crowded.
