One of Finland’s national landscapes opens up from Aavasaksa. Aavasaksa is a hill in Ylitornio and its height is 242 meters above sea level, being clearly higher than the nearby hills. Aavasaksa has been a well-known landscape attraction and viewpoint for a long time. It is also pretty easy: you can drive up to the top by car.

There are marked trails around Aavasaksa and at the top there is also a cafe, a covered stage, a lookout tower and the Emperor’s Lodge, which was built for tourists in 1882 and now serves as a museum. A little lower down, Aavasaksa also has a holiday village and ski slopes.

The hill is known as the southernmost point in Finland, where the midnight sun can be seen at midsummer.

Every time I have visited in here, the weather has been a bit rainy. So, when it's wet or icy, you should be extra careful on the edges of the hill.
