Mobile apps and Swiss hiking websites we use
My website SwissFamilyFun.com is a curated list of 100s of Swiss hikes that I and my family have done during the many years we have lived in Switzerland. For each hike, I include many details in English to make it easy for you.
Below are resources that I use to research and plan tours. You may find these helpful if you are customizing the hikes I suggest or are looking for other ideas.
Trail apps are used for plotting routes and live navigation while hiking.
All of the hikes I suggest in my Rexby guide have a link to Komoot trail maps that you can download on your phone. You can download an offline version of the map on your phone to use on the trail when you do not have access to WiFi.
I also use OutdoorActive, which has a large selection of base maps (including Swiss Topo). But I find their mobile app not as easy to use live on Swiss trails. Just my opinion.
For Swiss hiking trails, we use the following websites/apps to research and plan tours.
https://map.schweizmobil.ch/ - official Swiss hiking website showing the trail network across the country
https://www.schweizer-wanderwege.ch/ - Swiss organization that works with each canton to maintain and build the trails, including all the trail signs. (
https://wegwandern.ch/ - excellent hiking resource with lots of Swiss trail suggestions (German only)
