bericht van João Petersen

The Negombo Fort, also known as Migamuwa Balakotuwa, is a small but historically significant site in Sri Lanka. Built by the Portuguese in the 17th century, it played a key role in the colonial power struggles on the island. Despite its modest size, the fortress witnessed battles between the Portuguese, Dutch, and British forces. Today, visitors can explore its remnants, like the arched gateway and inscribed granite slab, which stand as reminders of its storied past. Though now used by the Department of Prisons, the fortress continues to tell tales of resilience and adaptation through the changing tides of history.
