We only visited Aït Benhaddou during our 3-day desert tour to Merzouga, but honestly? It was one of the highlights of our trip. That place looks like it was plucked straight out of a movie — which makes sense, because it kinda has been (Gladiator fans, you’ll recognize a few corners!).
Even though we didn’t get to explore Ouarzazate ourselves, we’ve heard great things — it’s often called the “Hollywood of Africa” thanks to all the film studios and epic desert scenery. A lot of travelers recommend doing a day trip from Marrakech that combines both Aït Benhaddou and Ouarzazate. It's a long day (expect 8+ hours), but if you're into cinematic landscapes, old kasbahs, and getting a real feel for Morocco’s desert vibe without going all the way to the Sahara — this one’s for you.
Quick tip: Wear comfy shoes, pack water, and don’t skip the rooftop cafés. Watching the sun hit those earthen walls? Magic.
Would we do the full day tour if we hadn’t done the 3-day desert trip? 100%. Totally worth the journey from Marrakech.
