Kamakura Daibutsu, or the Great Buddha of Kamakura, is an iconic sight located in the Kanto region of Japan. The 13th-century bronze statue stands 11.3 meters tall and weighs 121 tons – making it the second tallest bronze Buddha in Japan – and is a must-see destination for travelers and locals alike. Imposing and serene, the faint murmur of activity carries on outside as visitors enter the Buddha to pay a small donation and contemplate life within its grandeur. Other attractions within the grounds include the 1.8 meter long warazori straw sandals and Kangetsudo Hall, which originated in 15th-century Seoul. All are accessible with just a short 7-minute walk from Hase Station after traveling from Tokyo via Kamakura Station.
