The Path of the Glacier Trail is a straightforward walk along a paved path to a viewpoint in front of Mount Edith Cavell and the spectacular Angel Glacier. Some interpretive signage explains more about the area and Edith Cavell herself.
The path has a slightly downhill on the way to the viewpoint, so keep that in mind as it will be uphill on the way back (70m elevation total). This is the only reason I have rated the hike as a '2' instead of a '1.'
This hike is a shorter alternative to the Cavell Meadows Trail. Keep in mind that while lots of people do go over the viewpoint fence to the pond’s edge, this area is closed for safety reasons. Huge chunks of ice (as big as a house) can fall at any time.
Please note that this trail has been closed since the July 2024 wildfire. It is unknown whether it will reopen for the summer 2025 season. Check the Parks Canada 'What's Open in Jasper' page for updates.
A Parks Canada parks pass is required to explore Jasper National Park ($22/day for a vehicle of up to 7 people).
