Situated where the North and South Thompson rivers meet, Kamloops is one of the biggest cities in BC's interior. The landscape surrounding this 100k strong community is semi-arid, with dry grasslands stretching far in the distance.
Nicked 'Canada's Tournament Capital', Kamloops has a large number of hotels and motels. These are also well used by people travelling between Vancouver and Banff/Calgary.
Depending on your itinerary, an alternative overnight destination would be Salmon Arm (my preference). The drive would take around an hour longer when driving from Vancouver or Whistler.
