This renowned cheese dairy provides visitors with a unique opportunity to explore the rich heritage and meticulous process behind the famous Gruyère AOP cheese.

Tour Highlights

  1. Interactive Exhibition: The tour begins with an engaging interactive exhibition, where visitors learn about the history of Gruyère cheese, the local traditions, and the specificities of the cheese-making process. The exhibition is available in multiple languages, ensuring accessibility for international visitors.

  2. Cheese Factory Viewing: Witness the magic of cheese-making in action. Large windows allow you to observe the master cheesemakers as they transform fresh milk into Gruyère cheese. The process includes heating the milk, cutting the curd, and pressing the cheese, providing a fascinating insight into traditional methods. Take note that the cheese making process starts at 9-12.30pm, so if you want to watch it you should try to come early. You can check the timetable here.

  3. Tasting Experience: No visit to La Maison du Gruyère is complete without tasting the final cheese product! As part of the tour, you will be given samplings of different ages of Gruyère cheese, from mild to mature, allowing you to appreciate the nuances in flavor and texture that develop over time.

  4. Cheese Shop and Café: After the tour, don't forget to visit the on-site shop to purchase authentic Gruyère cheese and other local specialties. The restaurant is also worth visiting for lunch as it offers a variety of dishes featuring the Gruyère cheese fondue and it is very authentic.
