The Gorner Gorge is a stunning natural wonder in Zermatt, Switzerland. The entrance to the gorge is an easy 15 to 20-minute stroll from Zermatt's center, situated in close proximity to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise cable car base station.
To minimize your walk, you can choose to take the shuttle bus from Zermatt town to the Zermatt, Matterhorn Glacier Paradise stop, then walk 750m to the entrance of the gorge.
Both the red and green buses service this route and operate approximately every 10 minutes.
Once you are at the gorge, you can marvel at the brilliant turquoise of the water, and if you come here during autumn you can an even more exceptional view! The trail is not difficult but the path is narrow and gorge has stairs, so no strollers. The gorge is only 200 meters in length, and so will take no longer than 90 minutes including picture taking time.
Once you reach the end of the gorge, you have two options: retracing your steps or walking through the forest back to Zermatt. I recommend the latter, and to do so, you should turn right upon exiting the gorge. This route is delightful walk that is both reasonably brief and not particularly challenging. Simply follow the signs leading to Blatten, which is approximately a 15-minute walk from the gorge's terminus. From Blatten, it is about 20 minutes to Zermatt and on the way, you can choose to stop by Bergrestaurant Blatten for a meal, and enjoy the sceneries of surroundings with the Matterhorn.
