The Place de la Riponne in Lausanne is a charming destination that attracts both locals and visitors alike. It is home to the Palais de Rumine, a Florentine-style building with multiple museums inside, it now houses the local library and zoological musuem.
The square is always bustling and lively with people walking or window shopping at its many boutiques. If you come on a Wednesday or Saturday, you can even visit the weekly farmers/ flea market where they sell everything from local produce, fresh flowers, vintage items etc. There is a red and yellow stall right next to the stairs selling patisseries and you gotta try their cheese tart and raisin bread which are my two absolute favourite!
In addition, the Lausanne Cathedral and The Great Escape (a local hipster bar) are both within walking distance of this great destination.
If you were to visit during November-December, there is the annual christmas lightshow (Lausanne Lumieres) and the entire square is sparkly and lit up with beautiful lights and colours!
