Nestled in the heart of the Bernese Oberland, Blausee is a stunning turquoise lake that captures the essence of Switzerland’s natural beauty! It is exceptionally beautiful to visit especially during autumn. My only gripe with it is that for such a small attraction, the ticket price is a little expensive.

If you are choosing between Oeschinensee and Blausee, my suggestion is to go with the former as the views are much more spectacular. If you are less keen on hiking and just want to capture scenic shots for the gram, then Blausee is the better choice.

Getting to Blausee

From Interlaken:

  • Train: Take the train from Interlaken West or Interlaken Ost to Spiez (approx. 30 minutes).

  • Transfer: At Spiez, transfer to a train heading towards Kandersteg (approx. 30 minutes).

  • Bus: From Kandersteg, take bus number 230 towards Frutigen and get off at the Blausee bus stop (approx. 15 minutes).

What to Explore

  • The Lake: Blausee is renowned for its crystal-clear, blue waters. The lake’s unique color comes from its underground springs and the purity of the water.

  • Boat Ride: You can take a boat ride on the lake or enjoy the scenic walking trails surrounding it (included in your ticket price)

  • Blausee Fish Farm: Visit the organic trout farm located on the premises. The lake is home to various trout species, and the farm offers insights into sustainable fish farming practices. You can also buy them back for cooking.

Food Options

  • Blausee Restaurant: Located right by the lake, .the restaurant terrace offers stunning views of the lake, and offers dishes from fresh trout from the lake itself, along with other Swiss specialties.

  • Picnic Areas: For budget travellers, there are designated picnic areas around the park where you can bring your own food.
