Location: The plane wreck is located on Sólheimasandur Beach, a stretch of black sand desert between the Mýrdalsjökull glacier and the sea. It is near the town of Vík and about 10 kilometers (6 miles) from Skógafoss.
Parking: There is a designated parking area along Route 1 (the Ring Road), roughly marked between Skógafoss and Vík.
Hiking Trail: From the parking lot, it is a 3.5 to 4-kilometer (2.2 to 2.5 miles) hike (one way) to the wreckage. The trail is flat and well-marked but can be exposed to the elements, so come prepared with proper clothing and footwear. If you don't want to walk there is a shuttle bus that will take you there but it is 2900 ISK roundtrip(23 USD)
Best Time to Visit: The wreck can be visited year-round, but weather conditions can vary significantly. Summer offers milder weather, while winter can bring snow and strong winds.
Time and Preparation: The round-trip hike takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, so allocate sufficient time for the visit. Carry water, and snacks, and wear suitable clothing for changing weather conditions.
Facilities: There are no facilities at the plane wreck or the parking area. The nearest facilities are in the towns of Vík or Skógar.
