Wanfenglin Scenic Area, also known as the Forest of Ten Thousand Peaks, is a hidden gem with actually about 20,000 peaks. I guess they lost count...
About Wanfenglin
Wangfenglin is one that is probably not on your usual China guidebook.
Think the karst mountain landscape of Yangshuo, but without the crowds ... or the good transport links for that matter.
Lush green hills and rice fields fill the ground, surrounding karst mountain peaks.
Wanfenglin travel tips
The scenic area and the village co-exist, so I'd suggest staying there and talking to your hotel about renting a motorbike. This will make it a lot easier to get around independently and visit the multiple spots within the park.
Alternatively, you can rent a bike, a shared scooter or take the scenic are bus, though with the bus you do lose the freedom of exploring as you're limited to the stops it makes at the different viewpoints.
Getting to Wanfenglin
Wanfenglin is by Xingyi city, Guizhou; a small town on the border between Guizhou and Yunnan provinces.
There's 2 main ways to get there:
by plane: there's a small provincial airport in the city, though most flights are from Guiyang - the capital of Guizhou, there are occasional flights elsewhere.
by train: there is a train station in town too - though the best line is also to Guiyang.
