Taxi

Zanzibar has a reliable network of taxis, but ask about the price before starting your journey. I used the same taxi driver during my whole trip and I would really recommend him if you’re looking for a reliable airport pick-up or taxi driver during your stay. His name is Hadji and he is always available on Whatsapp and helpful with any kind of questions you might have. You can text him on Whatsapp: +255 777 425 087

Some info:

  • Price from AirPort to Paje is around $30 USD.

  • Note that all activities in my travel plan do not include transportation/taxi, so please consider this cost in your calculations. Prices may vary depending on the taxi driver so ask about the price before booking.

  • For the Spice Tour the taxi can bring you to the farm and wait until the tour is done before continuing to Stone Town. You can do the same with all activities, ask if the driver can pick you up or wait until the activity/tour is finished, which should not be any problem.

Daladalas (Shared Minibuses):

Dala dalas are shared minibuses that operate on specific routes. While they are a budget-friendly option, they may not follow fixed schedules and can be crowded. It’s an adventurous way to experience local transportation.

Bajaji:

Bajajis, also known as tuk-tuks, are a popular mode of transportation in Zanzibar, particularly in urban areas like Stone Town. These three-wheeled vehicles provide a convenient and efficient way to navigate through the narrow streets and bustling markets. Here are some key points about Bajajis in Zanzibar:

  • Affordability

Bajajis are a cost-effective option for short-distance travel. Fares are generally reasonable, and you may be able to negotiate the price with the driver.

  • Urban Transport

They are commonly used for commuting within towns and cities, offering a quicker alternative to walking.

  • Local Experience

Riding in a Bajaji offers a unique and local experience. It allows you to be part of the vibrant street life in Zanzibar while efficiently moving from one point to another.

When exploring Zanzibar, especially in areas with narrow streets, considering a Bajaji for short-distance travel can be a practical and enjoyable choice. We used the bajaji during a very rainy week when the streets were filled with water and puddles, making it almost impossible to walk.
