The village sits in a green valley surrounded by some of the most iconic mountains in Switzerland, including the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. I loved the quaint wooden chalets with flower-filled balconies that line the streets, and the sound of cowbells echoing through the valley,it really is the Swiss dream!

Strolling through the village, you’ll find a variety of shops offering local crafts, Swiss chocolates, and outdoor gear, as well as cosy cafes and restaurants where you can savour Swiss specialties like fondue and rösti.

Chäs Gruebi

A must-visit for cheese lovers, Chäs Gruebi offers a wide variety of local and regional Swiss cheeses. In addition to cheese, they also sell other Swiss delicacies, such as cured meats and wines, making it a great place to stock up for a picnic.

Grindelwald-First

Go to the Grindelwald gondola station, where you can take a short ride up to the First summit. Here, you’ll be treated to panoramic views that stretch across the valley, with the Eiger’s north face dominating the skyline. If you're feeling adventurous, the First Cliff Walk is a must-do. This thrilling walkway clings to the side of the mountain, offering breathtaking views as you walk the narrow path suspended high above the ground. (See First page for more details)

🥾Explore The Glacier Canyon Walk

The Glacier Canyon Walk is one of the most unique things to do in Grindelwald. The walk brings you through a rocky valley carved out by a glacier! So awesome!

🏔️Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe:

No trip to Grindelwald would be complete without a visit to Jungfraujoch, the highest railway station in Europe. The journey to the Top of Europe takes you through the Eiger and up to an altitude of 3,454 metres. Once there, you can explore the Ice Palace, visit the Sphinx Observatory for panoramic views, and step out onto the Aletsch Glacier, the longest glacier in Europe. So cool!

📸Grosse Scheidegg:

If you love scenic drives or cycling, the route from Grindelwald to Grosse Scheidegg is a must. This high mountain pass offers stunning views of the Wetterhorn and the Rosenlaui Glacier.

Hikes:

🥾Eiger Trail:

I recommend hiking the Eiger Trail. This trail starts at the Alpiglen station and runs along the base of the Eiger’s north face, offering a close-up view of one of the most famous mountains in the world. The trail is moderately challenging but accessible, and the rewards are immense, with dramatic views.

💦Bachalpsee

Bachalpsee is one of the most beautiful Alpine lakes in Switzerland. The hike to Bachalpsee is relatively easy, taking about an hour from the First summit. Once there, you’ll be greeted by the sight of crystal-clear water reflecting the surrounding mountains—a perfect spot for a picnic or simply to sit and enjoy the tranquility.
