Explaining the Area
Many people use the terms Jackson and Jackson Hole interchangeably, but they actually refer to different things. Jackson refers to the town located at the southern end of the Jackson Hole valley. It serves as the gateway to the surrounding parks and is the area’s commercial hub, with shops, restaurants, galleries, and accommodations. It's marked by the iconic Antler Arches and Million Dollar Cowboy bar in town square.
Jackson Hole, on the other hand, refers to the entire valley that stretches from the town of Jackson to the north and includes not only the town itself but also nearby Teton Village, Moose, Kelly, Wilson and more. The term "Jackson Hole" is used to describe the entire region, with the Teton Range to the west and the Gros Ventre Range to the east, along with the communities and outdoor destinations within it.
Jackson Hole Airport
The Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) is about a 15-minute drive (10 miles) north of Jackson. It is a small, yet picturesque airport nestled at the base of the Teton Mountains and serves as the main gateway for visitors flying into the area. It provides easy access to both Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, making it a convenient hub for travelers. Its close proximity to Jackson means you’ll be able to hit the slopes or trails soon after arriving, and the airport itself is renowned for its stunning views and rustic, mountain lodge-style architecture.
Teton Village
Teton Village is home to the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and offers world-class skiing and hiking. It's just a 20-minute drive (12 miles) north of Jackson. In the summer, Teton Village is a hub for outdoor activities like hiking, mountain biking, and scenic tram rides.
Grand Teton National Park Visitor Center
The Moose Visitor Center is one of the main visitor centers in Grand Teton National Park and a great stop to gather information about the park, pick up maps, and learn about the area’s wildlife, history, and geology. Located just 15 minutes (12 miles) north of Jackson, it offers stunning views of the Teton Range and is an excellent place to start your exploration of the park.
Jenny Lake (Grand Teton National Park)

Colter Bay (Grand Teton National Park)
Colter Bay is located on the shores of Jackson Lake on the north end of Grand Teton National Park, about 45 minutes (30 miles) north of Jackson. It’s a fantastic spot for boating, hiking, and enjoying stunning views of the Teton Range. The Colter Bay Visitor Center is also located here and offers educational exhibits and activities.
Old Faithful (Yellowstone National Park)
Old Faithful is one of Yellowstone’s most famous geothermal features. It’s located about 1 hour and 30 minutes (60 miles) north of Jackson. The drive to Old Faithful takes you through the southern entrance of Yellowstone, offering incredible views and access to other geothermal wonders along the way, like the Grand Prismatic Spring.
In summary, Jackson is the starting point for exploring the broader Jackson Hole region, with quick access to surrounding destinations like Teton Village, Grand Teton National Park, and Yellowstone National Park. Whether you're exploring the town or venturing into the wild, Jackson serves as a central hub for your adventures.
