Another geothermal gem in Rotorua? Not surprising, right? Aah, Rotorua is full of these hot spots. Waimangu Volcanic Valley is pretty cool, though it’s home to the world’s youngest geothermal system, formed after the massive volcanic eruption in 1886.
You’ve got a couple of options here: the Waimangu Volcanic Valley walk for $65, or if you want to make it a full experience, you can do the walk and a boat ride around Lake Rotomahana for $180. But as always, check the Bookme app before buying your tickets, trust me, I scored the full experience for just $88.
The walk itself is about 4 kilometers one way, winding you through bubbling hot springs and volcanic terrain, with lots of info to read along the way. Once you reach the end of the trail, you can either hop on a bus back to the carpark or take the boat cruise around Lake Rotomahana to see where the Pink & White Terraces once stood. It’s a mix of stunning scenery, fascinating history, and just enough adventure to make it all come together as an awesome experience.
