I used to not be a fan of winter in Norway...
Those gray days that fade into night before you know it, slushy roads, and wet snow—none of it seemed that great. I’d spend most of the season dreaming about white beaches and tropical weather. Growing up, I thought the dream would be to live close to the equator during winter and come back to Norway for the summer. Don’t get me wrong—I still crave some sun and warmth when winter’s at its darkest. But now, a couple of weeks away is enough before I start to miss the fresh air and snow.
So, what changed? Winter hasn’t, but my mindset has. I made a conscious effort to start enjoying Norway, year-round. For me, it meant getting out of the city more. Snow in the city can be a hassle, but head to the mountains, and it’s like entering a winter wonderland (if you're lucky with the forecast hehe).
And here's the real trick: embrace “hygge,” that Norwegian coziness. Make everyday moments special. Bake some buns, take a winter dip, drink hot chocolate with a mountain of whipped cream, host a cozy dinner, or knit yourself a colorful wool sweater.
I’m not saying everyone has to love winter, but I bet most people can find something to enjoy about it. That’s what this guide is here for—to help you find everything you need to plan the best winter adventures :)
