The Grütschalp to Mürren trail in the Jungfrau region of Switzerland is a great hike for beginner-level hikers with no need for snowshoes. Even in the wintertime, the trail is accessible and is a stunning sight covered in snow. The 4.3 km (2.7 mile) trail has minimal incline and takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, but hikers should allocate extra time for photo opportunities. The trail begins at Grütschalp Railway Station and offers panoramic views of some of the most iconic Swiss mountains along the way. At Winteregg Station, there is a restaurant right by a ski lift station before continuing further into the hike. Finally, the trail ends at the car-free village of Mürren which is the gateway to Piz Gloria and James Bond fame. Whether visiting in the summer or winter, this hike is sure to be an unforgettable experience.
TIP: I did this hike in winter, the trail is groomed and maintained. I took the cable car up to Grütschalp a bit before 8 am so I had enough time to catch the sunrise. Super beautiful experience.
You start the hike at Lauterbrunnen and riding the cable car up to Grütschalp. From there you hike to Mürren. You have few options to finish the hike. You either hike back the same way or take the train back from Mürren to Grütschalp.
