As I mentioned many times my guide is excluded from the most popular attractions like for example Buda Castle, as I guess, you either already know about it or can find it at the first google search page. But the Budapest Funicular is not the most popular thing to visit, even though it still gets pretty crowded with tourists.
It is a historic and iconic mode of transport in the Hungarian capital. Dating back to 1870, this funicular connects the lower part of the city with the Buda Castle District. After being out of service for decades due to World War II damage, it was restored in 1986 and has since become a national monument.
If you decide to take a ride,I’d recommend getting a top cabin, as you get the best view from there. It’s nothing like modern funiculars so you won’t get as good of views, but in my opinion it’s worth a visit because of its heritage and uniqueness.
If you don’t want to take a ride and prefer to take a scenic walk up to the castle, it’s still worth to stop by and take a picture.
