If you're looking to explore some of the outer islands of the Lofoten Archipelago or catch a budget friendly trip to Bodø, the the ferry is the best route. When we are headed south on road trip, we always take the ferry. It's super convenient and departs from multiple ports across Lofoten. If you're planning to take the ferry in the summer, be sure to buy your tickets ahead of time. Also, if you're the type that can get seasick, check windy.com for weather / wind data so you can hopefully avoid the rough seas.

These ferries are great. There's a cafeteria, wifi, a big deck that you can sit on the back of the boat, and comfy seats. The tickets are also fairly priced, so it's a great way to get to the mainland at a fraction of the cost of plane ticket.

There are two types of ferries: the fast ferry that doesn't accomodate cars, and the slow ferry, which does. If you're traveling with pets, you can leave them in the car, which is what we do, or you can bring them to the animal room, which has some kennels. The downside is that while the boat is moving, you're not able to visit your pets in either the car deck or the kennel room... but we've taken this trip many times with our dog and cat and it's always gone super well!

Here are the two websites to check for tickets + more information:
