This easy bike ride goes through the Lauterbrunnen valley, which has many waterfalls spilling off the mountains on both sides of the path. We suggest a route from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg, about 90 mins round trip.
Bike route: easy • 6.8 km one way • 40 mins • 140m up, 30 m down
See route map on Komoot.
In most cases, you'll go back the same way, so double the time.
Bike rental: Imboden Bike Rental in Lauterbrunnen
When to go: usually possible April to early November
Option: Up to Mürren
For more excitement, you can do a fun extension up to the Mürren village. In Stechelberg, ride the cable car up to Mürren and bring the bikes (bikes need a ticket too).
You can ride around the Mürren village a bit (slowly around pedestrians!).
Then ride down the service road to the Gimmelwald village. Visit the honesty shop and perhaps lunch at the Pension.
Then cable car (with the bikes) back down to Stechelberg.
Note: there is a mountain biking path from Gimmelwald to Stechelberg, but it is advanced terrain and not suggested.
Option: Longer route
For a longer ride, you can continue cycling past Stechelberg, joining a mountain road leading to the Trachsellauenen restaurant. However, this section is steeper and more difficult, suitable for more experienced cyclists. The road is narrower here, so you need to watch carefully for oncoming cars, which are few.
On the plus side, it's very beautiful and you get to enjoy see a more remote part of the valley. And the cute mountain restaurant is a nice place to have refreshments before heading back.
In this case, the route is 10km and 90 mins one way - see route map.
