Cape Farewell offers stunning views of the northern-most tip of the South Island.

After you've stopped at the Cape Farewell Lookout you can head to your right and take the Pillar Point track for an incredible view out to Farewell Spit as well as beautiful rocky coastal scenes.

The track crosses over farmland hugging the coastline and although a little hilly it's nothing too serious and only takes around 20 minutes to get to the lookout we took photos from. We stopped at the top of the ridgeline where the view of the rocky outcrop with Farewell Spit in the background looked amazing.

Photography info: We went at sunrise and were the only ones along the track for the entire time. It was beautiful to see the sun rise over Farewell Spit. You could also photograph it at sunset and get some stunning golden light over the coastal landscape if the weather allowed. I took my mid range lens with me (24-70mm) and my ND filters to smooth out the water.
