About 50 metres up the road from the iconic close up Mount Cook shot are a couple of tarns that reflection Mount Cook beautifully when they are full of water - usually during Autumn and Winter time. A bit of a secret spot, there are three tarns at this location but the two that reflect Mount Cook the best are the two larger ones. One of the tarns is further up so requires a short 100m walk.
Beware the land here can get very boggy and you might find yourself up to your knees in mud if you step in the wrong spot!
This location works best at sunrise with the golden light hitting the mountain peaks especially Mount Cook, however sunset is a great option also for backlit colourful clouds. Take your mid range zoom lens with you for this spot.
