Embark on a high-altitude adventure amidst the grandeur of Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park by conquering the Mueller Hut Track. This iconic trail, starting at the White Horse Hill Campground, offers an exhilarating ascent through alpine meadows, rocky moraines, and glacier-carved landscapes. As you climb, the panoramic views of New Zealand's highest peak, Aoraki/Mount Cook, and the surrounding Southern Alps become increasingly spectacular.

At the top of the stairs section of the climb you will reach The Sealy Tarns which are two small alpine lakes which sit flat on the Sealy Range in Mount Cook National Park (also mentioned in this guide). The reflections of Mount Cook and Mount Sefton are incredible and if you are lucky you might even get a visit from the cheeky Kea New Zealand's alpine parrot .. be careful though, they will probably try and pinch your gear or at least try to break some of it.

Carry on past the tarns and climb another 600 metres you will arrive at the famous Mueller Hut, one of New Zealand's most popular tramping huts.

Mueller Hut, perched at an elevation of 1,800 meters (5,905 feet), can be booked for an overnight stay so that you can photograph both the sunset and the sunrise if you wanted to. It can be booked through Department of Conservation.

The photo opportunities from up at the hut are endless and it's worth all the climbing for the views. You can also climb nearby Mount Olivier for an even higher vantage point. Make sure you have a wide angle and zoom lens to make the most of the photography opportunities up there.

Please note: during winter months there are heavy avalanche warnings associated with this track .. always check first.
