Hokitika Gorge is an incredible natural area located in the South Island's West Coast of New Zealand. With a 40-minute drive inland from Hokitika, it is an excellent destination for visitors seeking a beautiful scenic getaway. This area has a long and interesting history, with Māori people traveling through the Hokitika River via Rurumataikau as early as 1863.
The Hokitika Gorge walk is a 2km loop track on a well formed path that takes around an hour to complete. There are some beautiful opportunities for photography especially around 15 minutes in on the walk where you can explore over the rocks and capture the stunning turquoise glacial water.
