The Boulder Bank Scenic Reserve is an incredibly unique geological formation. Located in the Nelson Harbour of New Zealand, this pristine 8-mile stretch of boulders has been formed by longshore drift, giving visitors a breathtaking view of this beach that is made from boulders instead of sand.

The reserve is protected as a scenic reserve and serves as the nesting site for many native birds. You can explore the area on either Boulder Bank Drive or from Glenduan.

For photography the Boulder Bank is a great spot to practice some long exposure water washing over the boulders especially where there is some surf around. This spot works at both sunrise and sunset and I would recommend taking your wide angle lens (16-35mm or similar) and some ND filters and a tripod if you have them.
