Mount Dewar near Coronet Peak is one of the best spots to watch the sunset in Queenstown and so worth the little uphill hike to get there. With views over Skippers Canyon and the surrounding mountain ranges it really is such a beautiful place to sit and take in the incredible views.

The total distance to hike to the summit of Mount Dewar return is around 7.6km and takes about 1.5 hours to the top.

Park your car at the Skippers Lookout carpark and walk about 5 minutes up to where the trailhead starts (signposted as the Atleys Track).

From here it is an uphill slog the whole way but on a well formed 4 wheel drive track so it's not too difficult. When you near the summit look for the telephone poles and that's where you need to go.

Photography info: Take your wide angle and mid range zoom lens to this spot and it is beautiful at both sunset and sunrise golden hours.
