From almost the same location on Pembroke Road as the road shot mentioned in this guide (50 metres up the road) are some fantastic views of Mount Ruapehu and Mount Ngauruhoe from afar.

You will need your zoom lens for this location as the mountains are a few hundred km's away but they look amazing on the camera.

I shot these images just after sunrise and then also in the middle of the day!

You'll need to climb up a small bank and shoot over the farmers fence but other than that its quite an easy shot.
