The PR1 Vereda do Pico Branco e Terra Chã is one of Porto Santo’s most beautiful hiking trails, stretching 2.7 kilometers one way and leading to two iconic landmarks: Pico Branco, the island’s second-highest peak at 450 meters, and Terra Chã, a peaceful viewpoint with a barbecue area. The trail features a fork, allowing hikers to first reach Pico Branco and then return to the junction to continue to Terra Chã. The trail passes through diverse landscapes, including rocky paths and lush greenery, showcasing endemic plants such as dragon trees and laurel shrubs.

While the hike is moderately challenging due to its steady ascent, it is accessible to those with basic fitness levels. Proper footwear, water, and sun protection are essential. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon. In the morning, the soft golden light beautifully illuminates the island, while at sunset, you can witness the sun sinking into the ocean, creating a peaceful and memorable experience.

For those seeking adventure and tranquility, PR1 Vereda do Pico Branco e Terra Chã offers a perfect blend of stunning views, natural beauty, and cultural significance.

Despite the trail being well-marked, to make navigation even easier, you can use my GPS track to ensure you stay on the right path and feel confident about your route.

NOTE: make sure to check the official information on the website to confirm the trail status before heading there.
