Pico do Castelo, a 437m volcano-shaped peak on Porto Santo Island, is more than just a hike – it’s a perfect mix of panoramic views and history. At the top, you’ll find a bust of Schiappa de Azevedo, who led the reforestation of the area, as well as the ruins of a 16th-century fortress, a reminder of Porto Santo’s battles against pirate invasions.

To get there, you have two options:

1️⃣ Hike the PR2 trail, a more challenging but rewarding route.

2️⃣ Drive up to the small parking area located between Pico do Castelo and Pico do Facho, and enjoy a relaxed stroll to the summit.

At the top, you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views, a peaceful picnic spot, and a unique chance to stand in a place that blends nature and history.
