Situated within São Jorge parish, Santana municipality houses the island of Madeira's sole operational watermill, known as the traditional Watermill.

A visit to Achadinha is a journey 300 years into the past, providing a firsthand glimpse into how the region harnessed water for sustenance and milling.

Following a thorough restoration in 2000, the mill has continuously ground wheat, corn, barley, and rye, predominantly sourced from São Jorge's agricultural terraces.

The watermill produces flour in the traditional way and exist on donations. You can visit it to see everything with your own eyes and maybe buy some flour or homemade cookies to support the owner
