‘Ponte velha’ translates from Portuguese as the ‘old bridge'.
By the way, this bridge is not the only one that bears this name. Literally a 10-minute drive from it there are remains of another old bridge - Ponte Velho do Faial - which has only 2 of 7 spans survived.
If you plot the route in Google maps, then these two bridges are very easy to confuse.
Remember: you need A PONTE VELHA, which is located near the Moinho do Comandante Hotel 🏠
