Vereda do Pico do Facho is a scenic trail on Porto Santo Island, leading to its highest peak, Pico do Facho, which stands at 517 meters above sea level. Although this route is not part of the island’s official hiking trails, it is well-loved by hikers for its incredible panoramic views of the island and the Atlantic Ocean.

The trail typically begins near Pico do Castelo, and the hike to the summit takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your pace. The path is moderately challenging, with steady inclines as you ascend towards the peak.

Historically, Pico do Facho served as a vital lookout point for the island. Fires were lit at the summit to warn the local population of approaching pirate ships—a signal that could even be seen from Madeira Island. This adds a layer of historical intrigue to the hike.

During my visit, I walked around Pico do Facho but didn’t have enough time to hike to the summit. For those who want to make the climb, I’ve attached the GPS track I planned to use. Feel free to use it and enjoy the hike!
