The Jerónimos Monastery, also known as the Hieronymites Monastery, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the historic Belém neighborhood of Lisbon, Portugal. The monastery was built in the early 16th century during the height of the Portuguese Age of Discovery and is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful examples of Manueline architecture in the country.

The monastery is famous for its ornate stone carvings, intricate azulejos (tiles), and its beautiful cloisters, which are adorned with intricate stone carvings. The most famous of these is the portal of the church, which depicts scenes from the life of St. Jerome, the patron saint of the monastery. Inside the church, visitors can admire the ornate chapels and tombs of famous Portuguese figures such as Vasco da Gama.

The Jerónimos Monastery also houses the National Archaeology Museum, which has a collection of artifacts from the various periods of Portuguese history, including the Roman and Visigothic periods.

The Monastery's location in the Belém neighborhood, close to the Tagus River, makes it a perfect starting point for a visit to the historic sights of Lisbon and the monuments of the Discoveries, such as the Belém Tower and the Monument to the Discoveries. The area is also famous for the traditional "Pastel de Belém" a typical pastry from Lisbon.

Overall, the Jerónimos Monastery is a must-see destination for anyone visiting Lisbon, as it is not only a beautiful example of medieval architecture but also a testimony of the country's rich history and cultural heritage.
