Madeira might not have beautiful white sand beaches, but this black sand beach should be enough to make you happy. There is something special about a clean, black sand beach, so don't be discouraged by everyone who says there are no beaches on Madeira.
Seixal Black Sand Beach is a must visit in our opinion. It's great for taking photos with the dramatic backdrop of tall sea-cliffs.
During summer you should go early as it's a special experience to watch the early sun caress the black sand. It can be crowded with people, but usually not if you come early. There are not a whole lot to do in Seixal, but make sure to dip one of the many the rock pools that wraps around the town.
Right behind the parking lot roundabout next to the beach, you have a beach bar where you can enjoy a drink of choice. It's a bit dated and we would advise against eating here.
PRO TIP: During winter (November, December, January, February) the sun barely reaches Seixal because it's too low, so keep that in mind.
